Museum of Fine Arts of Bordeaux

20, cours d'Albret Bordeaux, New Aquitania

The Musée des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux is a Bordeaux museum dedicated to fine arts (painting, sculpture, graphic arts). Founded in 1801, the Musée des Beaux-arts in Bordeaux is the oldest municipal museum in the city, and an important cultural player, both regionally, nationally and internationally. The works in the collection cover a period of time from the 15th to the 20th century, with works by artists such as Perugino, Tiziano, Veronese, Van Dyck, Rubens, Chardin, Delacroix, Corot, Rodin, Kokoschka, Picasso, Matisse. This encyclopedic vision runs parallel to a very strong more regional representation, testified by the works of artists originating in Bordeaux, such as the neoclassical Lacour and Tailasson, the symbolist Redon, the Fauve Marquet, the Art Deco painter Dubas and the cubist Lhote. The museum space is divided into two separate places: while the Musée des Beaux-Arts houses the permanent collection, the frequent organized temporary exhibitions are housed in the Galerie des Beaux Arts, built in 1939 and located near the museum.
