From 25 March to 18 September 2022
Museion Passage is an experimental exhibition format that periodically redesigns the ground floor of Museion presenting works from the collection, accessible free of charge and regardless of the current exhibitions, underlining the basic idea of the architects who interpret the museum as a passage between the historical and modern part of the city, as a metaphor to stimulate a conscious dialogue between generations, sectors of activity and communities.
From 25 March 2022 the protagonist of this space is Jorge Otero-Pailos (Madrid, 1971), an artist who works between art, architecture and conservation and who creates works that address the themes of memory and history. the result of a ten-year investigation, still in progress, which arises from cleaning the dust and residues of pollution from monuments such as the Doge's Palace in Venice, the Houses of Parliament in London and the Trajan's Column at the Victoria & Albert Museum.
Invited in 2008 by the Raqs Media Collective (curators of the Bolzano section of the seventh edition of Manifesta in 2008) to reflect on the meaning of the restoration of Alumix, a former disused aluminum factory chosen as the site of the event, Otero-Pailos responds by creating a monumental installation made up of 175 latex panels: a restoration operation converted into a work of art.
In the museum spaces, part of the site-specific installation The Ethics of Dust is exhibited, currently part of the museum collection, onto which in 2008 the patina extracted from the wall of the abandoned factory was transferred: a work that reveals the monuments as powerful agents of cultural connection, activators of questions and inquiries about the past and its understanding.
With this installation Museion intends to reflect on the role and importance of cultural heritage, on what and why to preserve, thus stimulating an active conversation with the public.
