From 13 April to 3 November 2019
Museion presents "Doing Deculturalization", the exhibition curated by Ilse Lafer, guest curator 2019. The project starts from the writings of the Italian art historian and critic Carla Lonzi (1931-1982), which have significantly influenced the relationship between feminism and female art in Italy. On display over 40 positions of artists and archives , both historical and recent - with particular attention to those in the ArchiviodiNuovaScrettura (ANS), Museion Collection.
“The deculturization for which we opt is our action” wrote Carla Lonzi in Sputiamo su Hegel (1970), meaning by this a radical break or the creation of a void within a culture dominated until then exclusively by man. For this we need a (cultural) decoding of life, work and language that leads to the gesture of "escaping the norm".
"Doing Decultualization" revolves in various ways around this radical break or void, which becomes a principle of the exhibition, both as regards the works presented and the exhibition architecture, created for the occasion. On the one hand, the exhibition focuses on Italian feminism of the seventies of the last century - a phenomenon hitherto little discussed internationally, and its difficult relationship with art. On the other hand, feminist art is considered in the light of deculturization from both a historical and a current perspective.
