At Museion Passage – a space dedicated to the enhancement of the museum collection and the link with the territory, accessible free of charge – inaugurates the tribute exhibition to the South Tyrolean artist, musician and composer Albert Mayr on the occasion of his eightieth birthday.

Museion takes the opportunity of Albert Mayr's 80th birthday to recall central aspects of his extraordinary work, situated between music and art, in a presentation in Passage, on the ground floor of Museion, where it will be celebrated with various works from the 1970s , Eighties and Nineties of the museum collection.

Mayr is the author of both electronic music compositions and texts and theories on the need to rethink our relationship with time, beyond its role within music. Indeed, at the center of his work we find a broad concept of music in which everyday life and its sounds play an important role.

His poetics is based on the "design of time": on the one hand, he deals with the development of "time tabeling" - that is, the creation of timetables or time plans - as a creative discipline; on the other, it investigates the perception of the sounds of a concrete spatial environment: their repetitions, pauses, superimpositions. The author thus interprets the temporal structure as music and extracts aesthetic qualities from the sounds he finds therein.

One of the most prominent examples of Mayr's approach, visible in the exhibition, is the 1984 film Von Zeiten und Leuten. Am Beispiel Sarntal. (Of times and people. The example of Val Sarentino), commissioned by RAI Südtirol. In his film, Mayr records the sounds and rhythms marked by time that characterize the life of the inhabitants of the valley.

The exhibition also presents the 2021 documentary film From South Tyrol to the universe of sounds by Claudio Chianura, in which Mayr himself, his colleagues and critics who have accompanied his work speak at length.
