The Grundy Art Gallery is an art gallery located in the city of Blackpool, in the province of Lancashire, England. The gallery inaugurated on October 26, 1911, hosts exhibitions ranging from history to contemporary art. The gallery was born following the bequest of a group of 33 works of art and an economic donation by the brothers John and Cuthbert Grundy, local artists. By the end of the 1930s, the collection had already reached a considerable number of works so that an extension of two additional galleries was built. The new space opened in 1938. The Grundy Art Gallery currently contains nearly 2,000 objects. The gallery offers a program of contemporary visual art exhibitions including both established and emerging artists from the UK and overseas. Grundy's collection on permanent display includes Victorian oils and watercolors, modern British paintings, contemporary prints, jewelry and videos, oriental ivories, pottery, as well as Blackpool photographs and souvenirs. Works in the collection include Augustus John's Aircraftsman Shaw, Paul Nash's Sanctuary Wood, Eric Ravilious's The Yellow Funnel, Lucy Kemp-Welch's The Waterway and John Linnell's Woods and Forests.
