The Tränenpalast (Palace of Tears) is a Berlin museum that deals with the recent history of the city and Germany. It is based in the building located next to the Friedrichstraße station used during the Division of the two Germanys as a place of preparation for expatriation for those who left the GDR for West Berlin. No other place remembers the division of Germany as much as this pavilion and the destinies associated with it. Right here, in fact, many people had to say goodbye to their friends and relatives. For the citizens of East Germany, the building was a painful reminder that the border remained closed to them, while others were subjected to the harassment of border controls. The museum preserves original objects, documents, films and interviews that testify to the consequences of division and the border in the daily life of the citizens of Berlin.
