The Berlinische Galerie is a modern and contemporary art museum in Berlin. Located in the Kreuzberg district, the Berlinische Galerie was founded in 1975 as an association that had the aim of collecting and giving visibility to the Berlin art of the time. Initially it was responsible for organizing temporary exhibitions, while from 2004 it has been definitively transformed into a museum with a permanent and temporary collection. The museum is housed in a specially converted old glass factory. The museum's collection is dedicated to the art of the city of Berlin, especially from the 20th century. Emphasis is placed on the movements and individual artistic figures that developed in Berlin, with works relating to painting, photography and architecture. Among the artistic works of the collection are figures such as Max Liebermann and other representatives of the Berlin Secession, as well as the expressionists Otto Dix, Georg Grosz and Hannah Höch. There are also works by artists from the various movements of the 1920s, from the conceptual art movement and multimedia installations. The museum also organizes temporary exhibitions, meetings and film screenings.
