The Metropolitan Arts Center, also known as MAC, is the arts center of Belfast.
The Metropolitan Arts Center is home to exhibitions, theatrical performances, experimental works. It is located in front of the Cathedral of Sant'Anna, in a specially designed area in the city center. Project by the architectural firm Hackett Hall, it was completed in 2012. To date it has become a cultural hub and a shared space of reference in Belfast: it offers an eclectic program of visual arts, theater, dance, workshops and other activities.
The building consists of a series of brick volumes and a basalt tower surmounted by three floors of windows.
The MAC stands out for its eclectic art program but has a single work of art on permanent display, namely "The Permanent Present" by Irish artist Mark Garry. The work, commissioned by MAC and the Thomas Devlin Fund, consists of 400 copper wires in a spectrum of colors that connect a high window to the first floor.
