The Museum of East Asian Art (also known as MEAA) is located on Bennett Street in Bath, England. It is no coincidence that the museum is located in Bath, a city historically linked to China for the tea and porcelain trade. The Museum of East Asian Art is located in a restored Georgian house. It houses a collection, started by the lawyer Brian McElney.
He lived and practiced the profession in Hong Kong where he became passionate about the local culture and started collecting.
Today his are almost 2000 pieces including ceramics, bronzes, jades, bamboo sculptures and other objects from the East and South East Asia. The Museum of East Asian Art is the only museum in the country devoted entirely to the arts and cultures of East and Southeast Asia. Upon his return to England, McElney himself founded the Museum in 1990. Over the years the collection has expanded with new donations and acquisitions.
The collection of the Museum is exhibited in a lively and innovative way and in addition to the permanent one, the museum also organizes special exhibitions, events with the aim of promoting and making known the arts and cultures of East Asia.
