Maritime Museum of Barcelona

The Museu Marítim de Barcelona is a museum of the Spanish city dedicated to naval history. The Museu Marítim de Barcelona is housed in the building of the Drassanes Reials de Barcelona, a space dedicated to shipbuilding between the 13th and 18th centuries. In Gothic style, its construction was carried out in two stages, the first between 1283 and 1328 and the second between 1328 and 1390. The interior spaces of the museum are divided into ten Gothic naves formed by six meter high columns.

The museum's rooms are numerous, including those of Jaume I, Roger de Llúria and Lluís de Requesens hosting a reproduction of the royal galley of Don Giovanni of Austria and the 1:20 scale one of the Santa María, the main ship of Christopher Columbus.

In the museum there are also archaeological finds from the early Christian era (Roman amphorae, anchor stocks and millstones, weapons, artillery pieces); the Capmany Room is dedicated to sailing and displays watercolors and oil paintings of sailing ships and portraits of shipowners; the Hall of Peter the Ceremonious presents a replica of the Ictíneo I; Folk art room with various paintings; the Marquès de Comillas Room;

In the museum there are also ceramic collections of Catalan, Valencian, English and Dutch origins and display cases with naval instruments such as octants and sextants, mechanical sonars, barometers, compasses and astrolabes.
