Lisetta Carmi was born into a bourgeois family of Jewish origins and will therefore be forced into exile in Switzerland. Self-taught, he learns the basics of the trade by working for three years as a stage photographer at the Duse theater, in his city, then makes a series of reportages, such as the one on the workers of the port of Genoa. His engagement in photography continues by making numerous trips to Israel between 1958 and 1967, then to Latin America in 1969, to then move to the East, visiting Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Nepal.
