The sculpture in statuary marble depicts the myth of Narcissus, the beautiful hunter son of the god Cephisus and the nymph Liriope, and offers us a profound reflection on the complexity of perception and inner search.
The meaning of the work, although rich in symbolism, is, as in Jago's other works, left to the interpretation of the viewer. The reflection depicted is not the immediate and tangible one we see in the mirror, but an altered image that leads to mental perception. The sculpture invites us to consider the limit of the external observer in understanding the inner world of others, highlighting the difference between what appears on the surface and the complexity of thoughts and emotions hidden behind it: as observers, we are limited in accessing an individual's inner self, and what we see is only a part of reality.
