Les bretonnes et le Pardon à Pont Aven
Vincent Van Gogh
watercolours and pencil on paper
The watercolor depicts a large group of people, many of whom wear the classic Breton costume, who in the initial intention should have represented the indigenous population during one of the Pont-Aven summer religious holidays. The depth is suggested only by the progressive reduction of the size of the figures. The clear and marked contours are taken from the original model of Emile Bernard.
