The miter was commissioned by the Deputation to the Neapolitan goldsmith Matteo Treglia to decorate the bust of the Patron Saint during the procession.
To carry out the work, the Deputation made numerous stones and precious objects available, but the goldsmith decided to mount only diamonds, rubies and emeralds on the miter following the religious symbolism associated with the stones: the unassailable faith of diamonds, the charity of rubies and the hope of the emeralds.
The Miter is in gilded silver and for its complex design Treglia was inspired by the embroidery on fabric typical of the miters worn by Bishops. In total, he set 3326 diamonds, 198 emeralds and 168 rubies, for a total weight of 18 kg!
