From 9 March to 9 March 2019
At 10.30 am in the multimedia room of Castel del Monte there will be the presentation of the text by Massimilano Ambruoso entitled "Castel del Monte - the history and the myth", published by Edipuglia (2018) as part of the Mediterranean series of historical studies.
In the volume, the author tries to give a scientifically correct answer to the numerous questions that have arisen over time around the famous Frederick's construction. Why was it made with an octagonal plan? What was its function? Was it a simple defensive castle or an esoteric treasure chest? Or even a temple for body care?
With a preface by Francesco Violante, the text represents the most advanced point of the historiographical debate on the Andriese manor.
You can buy it in the bookshop inside Castel del Monte.
The presentation of the book is organized by Nova Apulia, concessionary company of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities for the integrated management of services in the Castles and State Museums in Puglia, in collaboration with the Association of the Norman-Swabian Study Center.
The director of Castel del Monte, Dr. Elena Saponaro, the president of the Association of the Norman-Swabian Studies Center, Francesco Violante, as well as the author of the volume, Massimiliano Ambruoso, will take part in the event.
This will be followed by a themed guided tour led by a guide from the Nova Apulia dealer, who will take up the contents of the text itself.
The event is open to school groups and anyone interested in the history of the castle with reservations required both for the presentation of the book and for the visit.
