The Birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte (Maison Bonaparte) is a house museum in Ajaccio. Inaugurated in 1967, it is the birthplace of Napoleon, who was born there on August 15, 1769 and where he lived until the age of nine. The museum preserves numerous documents and objects that testify to the exceptional fate of Napoleon. This is a very simple building. The visit begins on the second floor with a historical evocation of Corsica from the 18th century, and is followed by an introduction by family members: Carlo and Letizia in the first room, Napoleon, his brothers and sisters in the second room. Visitors are then taken to the Chambre de l'Alcôve which is thought to have been Napoleon's room on his return from Egypt when he visited the house for the last time. Another room is dedicated to the history of the family during the Second Empire and recalls the travels of Napoleon III and Eugénie. The family rooms are on the first floor: the living room, Madame Mère's bedroom, Napoleon's birthplace, the gallery, the boudoir, the room with the trap door that Napoleon would have used to reach the port 6 October 1799 and the dining room. The ground floor and the cellar show some photographs of the family residences around Ajaccio and photographs of various agricultural tools used on the land, such as millstones, jars and oil mills.
