The show

The museum house of the Querini Stampalia Foundation houses a clay sketch by Antonio Canova, made for a statue of Letizia Ramolino Bonaparte. It was the artist's half-brother, Giovanni Battista Sartori who donated it in 1857 to the founder, Count Giovanni Querini.

The link between an artist, Antonio Canova, an architect, Carlo Scarpa and a photographer in the exhibition 'in light' Photographs by Alessandra Chemollo in the Gypsotheca di Possagno curated by Maddalena Scimemi starts from afar. Promoted together with Museo Gypsotheca Antonio Canova in collaboration with Bugno Art Gallery on the bicentenary of Canova's death (1822–2022), it is open from 4 December 2021 to 27 March 2022 in the Scarpa Area of Querini Stampalia.

'in luce' presents about fifty shots of the reportage that Alessandra Chemollo produced in Possagno in the summer of 2016 and destined for publication (Carlo Scarpa. The Gipsoteca Canoviana di Possagno, with texts by Gianluca Frediani and Susanna Pasquali, Mondadori Electa, 2016 ).

So on that occasion the photographer expressed herself about her work: "... The sensation is what you get when you enter the scene: we are guided by the instructions of a silent director who seems to have decided our actions and our paths between plaster faces and shapes of light ... You could almost close your eyes, if it weren't for the fact that they are used to record the position: ours is a wider feeling, which involves hidden sensors, inexplicably reliable.

Our hesitant wandering gives us, soothed, a collected pleasure, and the feeling that we too, like the other things in there, could only be precisely there ”.

The photographs that are exhibited in the 'in light' exhibition explain this work, which in turn is the result of thirty years of research dedicated to the entire Scarpa catalog and merged into various volumes and exhibitions, providing essential knowledge tools for scholars.
