The event

On Monday 31 January 2022 at 6 pm , the Teatrino di Palazzo Grassi hosts the presentation of the fourth issue of “Dune. Writings on fashion, design and visual culture "," Vol. 002 n. 022: Value ".

The magazine, monographic and published in English and Italian every six months, reflects the research interests, the writing methods and the theoretical production of the working group of the fashion degree courses of the Iuav University of Venice formed by Elena Fava, secretariat editorial staff, and by Marta Franceschini, Gabriele Monti and Manuela Soldi, who are part of the editorial board of the magazine.

For the occasion, "Dune", intended as an editorial and curatorial platform, proposes a dialogue open to the public between Maria Luisa Frisa, full professor at the Iuav University of Venice and director of the magazine, Chiara Valerio and Saul Marcadent with the extraordinary participation of artist Jacopo Miliani, director of the film “La discoteca” which will be screened for the first time in Venice in this context.

After taking part in the editorial project of the second volume of the magazine, entitled "Manifesto", with an open letter to the artists of his generation, Jacopo Miliani - whose practice is aimed at performance as an expanded methodology - returns to collaborate with the team of "Dune" for the audience of the Teatrino introducing the film "La discoteca", produced by NOS Visual Arts Production (Elisa Del Prete and Silvia Litardi) and realized within the project of the same name, winner of the eighth edition of the promotion of contemporary art Italian Council.

The film proposes an evolution and a synthesis of Jacopo Miliani's research on themes inherent to body language, community places and the performativity of the self. Through an aesthetic marked by numerous cultural references and surreal visions, the author proposes an open narrative in constant dialogue with the viewer on topics such as the construction of identity, the sphere of sexuality, queerness, gender fluidity, relationship between personal choices and those imposed by society.

During its activity which counts the production of three important monographic issues dedicated respectively to the themes "Dark Room", "Manifesto" and "Fragment", "Dune" has expanded its working group by inviting international authors and authors to participate in the project such as Silvia Calderoni, Claire Fontaine, Judith Clark, Paolo Di Lucente, Anna Franceschini, Garbage Core, Gio Black Peter, Kensuke Koike, Bruce LaBruce, Louis De Belle, Luca Trevisani. The fourth issue, centered on the word “Value”, once again brings together the theoretical and visual production of international scholars, fashion designers and curators.

"Dune" is part of the Iuav FLAIR research cluster and is supported by donors who believed in the editorial project such as the National Chamber of Italian Fashion, Enzo di Sarli and Beatrice Rossaro, Maria Grazia Chiuri, Nicoletta Fiorucci (Fiorucci Art Trust), Maison Valentino .

Palazzo Grassi reaffirms its commitment to intercepting the best cultural and dissemination energies active at local, national and international level, with the aim of acting as a platform for meeting and exchanging for the deepening of contemporary languages.

On the occasion of the meeting, the publications "La discoteca", by Jacopo Miliani, edited by Elisa Del Prete and Silvia Litardi (NOS Visual Arts Production), "Viaindustriae", Foligno, 2021 (ita / en), and "Dune. Writings on Fashion, Design and Visual Culture, Vol. 002 n. 002: Value ”, Flash Art, Milan, December 2021 (ita / en) will be on sale at the Teatrino di Palazzo Grassi with the Marco Polo bookshop in Venice.
