closed VENICE IN THE PHOTOGRAPHS OF MASSIMO LISTRI

The show

The Correr Museum in Venice hosts the exhibition "Venice in Massimo Listri's photographs" from 20 July to 20 October 2022.

The beautiful photographs by Massimo Listri , which from 20 July or will be on display in the Ballroom of the Correr Museum , offer a unified and coherent look at the architectural monumentality of today's Venetian civic museum spaces, on the beauty of its halls, some of which have been restored by recently, of the long airy passing doors, of the exhibition itineraries always capable of continuous surprises. The capable and meticulous eye of Listri, one of the most important Italian photographers, reveals the soul of the places, the density of light and color that pervades them during the different hours of the day, the lightness of that enfilade of rooms that characterize the perspective escape of the Correr or the Royal Palace , the majestic grandeur of the places devoted to the care and defense of the Republic. A cultured and wise eye, imbued with art history, but at the same time capable of making a very original synthesis of that sometimes even excessive proliferation of decoration and architecture of the majestic halls. An eccentric gaze that sees what others do not see, that holds its breath before framing the lens, that stops the perfect instant of that mysterious aura that inhabits the rooms of the Museums.

The secret of his gaze is largely enclosed in natural light, which shuns the complicity of too sophisticated technologies, although in post-production his skilful hand does not disdain focus and perspective cuts that fully satisfy his desire to create with photography “a work of art within a work of art”. From this extraordinary eye these and other images were born which finally give back, thanks to his unmistakable figure, a unitary idea of the disciplinary multiplicity that characterizes the collections of the Civic Museums of Venice and its exhibition spaces, a restitution of unpublished views capable of amaze even those who are confronted every day with the rooms of the museum.
