The show

From 9 July to 18 September , at the Rossini National Museum , the exhibition “ Renata Tebaldi. Portrait of a Diva ”, a tribute to the singer from Pesaro, a universally recognized Italian icon, as part of the Tebaldi100 World Celebrations of the Centenary of the birth of the great soprano.

Organized by the Municipality of Pesaro - Department of Beauty with the support of the Marche Region, in collaboration with the Renata Tebaldi Museum, Renata Tebaldi Foundation Museum and Museum System, the exhibition, curated by Alfredo Corno, offers the opportunity to discover Renata Tebaldi ( Pesaro 1922 - San Marino 2004) as an artist and as a strongly determined woman, full of charm, sensitive to the attraction exerted by luxury, but not devoid of human frailties; a journey through haute couture clothes, costumes, portraits, photographs, accompanied by the musical background of his voice, a prodigious talent who knew how to modulate to make the strings of emotions vibrate.

On display are some magnificent stage costumes designed by Nicola Benois, Beni Montresor and Fujita Tsugui, which document the characters memorably played by Renata, as well as concert dresses signed by Rosita Contreras, her personal stylist, and by George Stavropoulos, known for having dress Jacqueline Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor and Barbara Streisand, and again, dresses by Hanae Mori, Japanese designer who dressed Grace of Monaco, Princess Masako and Imelda Marcos. All very precious garments that recall the unforgettable 'soirées musicales' - as Gioachino Rossini, the hospitable host, would have called them - flanked by some day dresses, not without well-known signatures, such as that of Pikenz.

Along the exhibition path, an area is also reserved for breathtaking hats, those with which he often appeared on the covers of magazines; handbags, jewels (on stage or not) and exquisitely feminine objects reveal a still current sensitivity and a profile of Renata that is more intimate and less known even to music addicts. For the first time two of her portraits are also exhibited, a tempera on cardboard and a canvas painted in oil, coming from the singer's Milan apartment, and large sequential photographs tell the frames of her long life, while a film presents testimonies, interviews and songs from mythical shows. Finally, to underline the link with the territory, an autographed writing, owned by the circle of friends of the opera G. Rossini of Pesaro, will be on display, and it will be possible to listen to an unpublished interview with Renata Tebaldi made by the journalist Elio Giuliani in 1999.

The intent is to offer the public of every generation the opportunity to know and, for the less young, to remember an authentic diva: Renata Tebaldi sublime voice, amazement of singing and spearhead of Melodrama, that universal language of opera that has always been an extraordinary promotion of Italian culture in the world. A star, but not unattainable.
