The show

Traveling between archeology and literature: the exhibition "Homer, Iliad. The works of MANN in the pages of Alessandro Baricco" is scheduled at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples (9 September 2021 - 10 January 2022). The itinerary, set up in the rooms of the Farnesina, intertwines the iconographic representation of fifteen finds (datable between the 6th and 4th centuries BC) with the writing of the famous Turin author. Five sections to define an evocative dialogue between literary and iconographic tradition: 1. Homer, Iliad: a human epic; 2. The story of the war; 3. Homer's women; 4. The death of Patroclus and the return of Achilles in battle; 5. The last night of Troy. The exhibition opens with the bust of Homer in Pentelic marble (Farnese Collection, 2nd century AD) which, in the first days of programming the exhibition (9-11 September), makes a "symbolic journey" to be exhibited in the small chapel of Terra Murata in Procida on the occasion of the MARetica review: a trait d'union to enhance the culture and heritage of the Mediterranean, in an ideal approach to "Procida Capital of Culture 2022". "The meeting between MANN, Alessandro Baricco and Procida Capital of Culture stems from a common language and sensitivity: - rethinking man starting from the sea - is the beautiful definition given to the days of MARetica by its inspirer. Museum in the center of the Mediterranean With the same thought, in recent years MANN has built important projects linked to the sea as a bridge between cultures, but also to the history of the contaminations that have generated our civilization, to the value of hospitality. , a great exhibition, from Naples to Sicily, which today generated the active network of the 'Mediterraneans'. A journey through our rooms that, passing from the Corto Maltese by Hugo Pratt to the stories of the emigrants of the' 900 to the archaeological discoveries in the port of Naples , will lead us to the creation of a section dedicated to the Mediterranean Sea and its myths told by ancient finds, but also by ancient and contemporary writers.
