ongoing Glass is life

The show

The art of glass is almost as old as the history of civilization. Glass objects were already being made when its composition and production technique were not yet known: so the origin of this material has remained in the legend Pino Clinanti (from Il Fuoco il Vetro il Vino, Fondazione Banfi, Montalcino, 1992, p . 17)

After the great exhibition “I Macchiaioli. The adventure of modern art " which ended with great public success on June 5, from June 25 to October 16 , Palazzo Mazzetti in Asti opens its doors to" Glass is life. The Pino and Donatella Clinanti collection. "

In continuity with the exhibition on Asti tapestries held between 2020 and 2021, Palazzo Mazzetti proposes a new exhibition dedicated to the territory and local collecting and, in the International Year of Glass, designated by the United Nations, hosts the precious collection of glass born from Pino Clinanti's passion for collecting and continued with enthusiasm by his daughter Donatella.

Within a path that tells the use of glass in art through the centuries, the collection testifies to the intertwining between life and aesthetic feeling of the engineer Pino Clinanti (1914 - 2007) and is made extraordinary thanks to the presence of a important and ancient nucleus of containers in milky glass (an opaque white milk-like “mimetic” glass, dating back to around 1450 and used as an imitation of Chinese porcelain that arrived in Venice), a material of which Clinanti was a great scholar.

The exhibition Glass is life. The Pino and Donatella Clinanti collection is created by the Asti Musei Foundation, the Cassa di Risparmio di Asti Foundation, the Piedmont Region, the Municipality of Asti and the Asti Chamber of Commerce, sees as sponsor the Banca di Asti Group, is in collaboration with OI Italy, with communication and promotion by Arthemisia.
