closed The magical realism of Mario Giacomelli

The show

In a redeveloped portion of Palazzo del Duca, which for years has hosted the exhibition program of the city of Senigallia, around 80 photographs are available, selected and arranged in collaboration with the Giacomelli archives represented by the two directors Simone Giacomelli and Katiuscia Biondi.

A permanent exhibition that wants to tell the poetic and artistic universe of the great photographer from Senigallia and make it permanently accessible to citizens and visitors. Furthermore, we want to provide an innovative reading of the master's work which is not proposed in an anthological way, i.e. by years and by series, but retraces his poetics by highlighting themes and suggestions.

The salient trait of Mario Giacomelli's personality - private and photographic - is his strong roots in his land, he reluctantly moved away from it, but despite this he immediately succeeded through his art in overcoming geographical boundaries as his work is characterized by a strong spirit of experimentation and a voracious will to research. Mario Giacomelli was born on 1 August 1925 in Senigallia, he was an Italian typographer, photographer and painter; known in particular for his shots in Black and White. Real and surreal mix in the photographer's images and are dressed in a deafening, reflective silence and a melancholic poetic. Mario Giacomelli died on November 25, 2000 in Senigallia.
