The show

The exhibition " Don Quixote between Naples, Caserta and the Quirinale: cartoons and tapestries " will be inaugurated on 19 May at the Royal Palace of Naples, in the presence of the Spanish ambassador to Italy Alfonso María Dastis Quecedo. of the series of tapestries with Stories of Don Quixote made by the Neapolitan manufacture between 1757 and 1779 .

The exhibition, curated by Mario Epifani, director of the Royal Palace, and by Encarnación Sánchez García, correspondent member of the Real Academia Española, will follow the story of Miguel de Cervantes through the complete series of cartoons, compared with some of the tapestries now preserved in the Quirinale, and with the most precious illustrated editions present in the National Library of Naples and the score of Paisiello's work from the S. Pietro a Majella Conservatory in Naples.


38 cartoons will be exhibited in the space of the Galleria del Genovese and in the XXIV room of the Historical Apartment alongside 7 tapestries (5 with episodes from the novel and two decorative), belonging to the series performed by the Neapolitan manufacturer in two stages between 1757 and 1779 for furnish the Royal Palace of Caserta and moved after 1870 to the Quirinal Palace in Rome . One of the tapestries, which comes from Capodimonte, on the other hand, is the testimony of the French manufacture.
