The show

The National Cinema Museum and Solares Fondazione delle Arti presented the first major exhibition dedicated to a great master of cinema: director, screenwriter and producer Dario Argento (Rome, 1940). DARIO ARGENTO - THE EXHIBIT, curated by Domenico De Gaetano and Marcello Garofalo is hosted at the Mole Antonelliana in Turin, headquarters of the National Cinema Museum, and visible to the public from Wednesday 6 April 2022 to Monday 16 January 2023.

To complete the day of celebrations in honor of the Maestro, Tuesday 5 April at 21.00 the Cinema Massimo hosts the screening of the restored copy of the famous Suspiria (Italia 1977, 98', DCP, col.), with an introduction by Dario Argento. On the occasion of the press conference for the inauguration of the exhibition project, held in the presence of the director, the National Cinema Museum of Turin paid homage to the genius and work of the filmmaker, visionary master of the thriller, with the award of the Stella della Mole.

DARIO ARGENTO – The Exhibit offers a chronological journey through the entire production of Dario Argento, from the beginnings of The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (1970) to his latest work Black Glasses (2022), recently presented at the Berlin Film Festival in the section Special Gala: the entire career of director and screenwriter Dario Argento built on the boundary between genre and auteur cinema. Starting from a visual synthesis of his favorite themes, the exhibition proposes for each title of the director's vast filmography curiosities, quotes, photographs, film sequences, sketches, posters, costumes, mechanized creatures and soundtracks. An excursus along all the various languages that contribute to the definition of the aesthetics that made him famous and appreciated all over the world.

Among the collections on display are also works by haute couture houses that have created costumes and jewels for Argento, and the creations of Italian masters of special effects. For the first time an exhibition project composes a complete and articulated visual discourse on the imaginary that the Roman director has brought to the screen during his fifty-year journey into the uncanny territories of the nightmare.
