ALLUVIUM | OGR Torino @Venice

April 23 - November 27 2022
Complex of the Barbaria de le Tole hospital, 6691 Venice

On the occasion of the 59th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, OGR Torino returns to Venice , in the spaces of the Ospedaletto Complex, presenting for the first time in the lagoon the trio of Iranian artists Ramin Haerizadeh, Rokni Haerizadeh and Hesam Rahmanian for a new site-responsive project: ALLUVIUM .

From 23 April to 27 November 2022 , the exhibition project brings together some new productions , developed over the last two years, and marks a new stage in the collaboration between OGR and the artists, strengthening a bond born in 2017 with the assignment to Rokni Haerizadeh of the first OGR Award, on the occasion of Artissima, and consolidated in 2018 with the exhibition Forgive me, distant wars, for bringing flowers home , organized to present the collaborative practice of the three artists to the public.

The works of Ramin Haerizadeh, Rokni Haerizadeh and Hesam Rahmanian arise from a process of re-elaboration, of negotiation, in a stratification of conceptual and material levels that add up to give life to works in constant becoming , in continuous transformation. Their research starts from objects that are accumulated to create a real landscape, mental and physical. Like collectors, in the flow of cultural images and information they create new possible constellations to create new narratives. A practice that recalls the context of Venice itself, a European city, a bridge to the East, which has developed over the centuries in a continuous aesthetic and cultural sedimentation thanks to the contributions of different peoples.

ALLUVIUM is a series of iron sculptures, made by artists in collaboration with the blacksmith Mohammed Rahis Mollah in Dubai, which hold terracotta plates, produced by local artisans according to the Middle Eastern tradition. The plates welcome the paintings of the artists, the result of a rewriting of images from the news, which creates a new imaginary, an alternative recording of our times presented in compositions and constellations with a delicate balance.

The title ALLUVIUM refers to clay, to the silt deposited by running water, to the materiality of terracotta paintings, and metaphorically to the rest of a more abstract flow: the debris of the flow of news, cultural images and history, scanned by artists and times collected to gain new life, in an act of resistance and counter-narrative.
