In collaboration with Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Venice and Photo & Contemporary Gallery, Turin
The Ettore Fico Museum is pleased to present an exhibition dedicated to the great photographer Gabriele Basilico.
Central Corpus of the exhibition is a section commissioned to the photographer by the Giorgio Cini Foundation of Venice in 2010, on the occasion of the retrospective dedicated to the great Venetian engraver: "The arts of Piranesi. Architect, engraver, antiquarian, landscape artist, designer" curated by Michele De Lucchi, Adam Lowe and Giuseppe Pavanello.
On that occasion the Cini Foundation asked the artist to portray the "eternal city" and other Italian places from the same angles of the Piranesian engravings.
The result was summarized in 32 shots subsequently compared with the 32 engravings by Piranesi.
A vast selection of over fifty photographs, of different formats, completes the exhibition which, for the first time in Italy, examines the great photographer's urban and conceptual poetry through images taken in his countless journeys.
