The show

The National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome presents, from Monday 24 October 2022 to Sunday 26 February 2023 , a new collective exhibition entitled “ Hot Spot ”, curated by Gerardo Mosquera. "Hot Spot" takes its title from the homonymous work by Mona Hatoum ("Hot Spot III", 2009), a large installation in iron and neon that depicts the planet Earth lit by a red light that symbolizes the conflicts that make it hot.

The work tells of how the disruptive way in which human society has been organized seems to lead to environmental catastrophe. The exhibition, designed specifically for the spaces of the Gallery, presents the works of artists from all over the world and belonging to different generations, such as Ida Applebroog, John Baldessarri, Johanna Calle, Pier Paolo Calzolari, Alex Cerveny, Louise Bourgeois, Mark Bradford , Soyoung Chung, Truong Cong Tung, Sandra Cinto, Jonathas de Andrade, John Gerard, Mona Hatoum, Ayrson Heráclito, Ibeyi, Kim Juree, Chris Jordan, Glenda León, Ange Leccia, Cristina Lucas, Cecylia Malik, Maha Malluh, Gideon Mendel, Otobong Nkankga, Raquel Paiewonsky, Alejandro Prieto, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Davide Rivalta, Andrea Santarlasci, Allan Sekula, Daphne Wright, Rachel Youn, Luiz Zerbini. The exhibition itinerary brings together multiple reactions of the artists through the poetic force of art, the selected works deepen the complexity of the current situation by proposing more than a vision of denunciation an aesthetic activism that intends to stimulate reflection and raise awareness of the disaster, to imagine a different relationship with the planet.
