Museum of the History of Medicine of Rome

Museum of the History of Medicine of Rome

Founded in 1938 by Adalberto Pazzini, the Museum of the History of Medicine preserves a rich collection of objects that allow us to reconstruct the evolution of knowledge and practices of medicine from prehistoric times to the genomic revolution. Its current location was inaugurated in 1954, by museumizing some collections for medical-educational documentation purposes, including that of the opera singer Evan Gorga, which still today represents the main and most valuable nucleus.

Today the Museum of the History of Medicine clearly shows the signs of the transformations that have taken place over time, and appears to be profoundly renewed in technology, teaching and scientific insights but does not deny the original didactic-documentary imprint. The museum itinerary is divided into three floors and is designed as an itinerary of a journey that, through the permanent exhibition of objects, artifacts and medical and scientific instruments from different eras, and some reconstructions of the environment, allows the visitor to discover and follow the evolution of Western medical thought from antiquity to modern medical biotechnologies.
