La Casa di Goethe is a museum and cultural center located in Via del Corso in Rome. It is dedicated to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and his Journey to Italy, made from 3 September 1786 to 18 June 1788 and published as a book in 1813. The Goethe House is located in the apartment where Goethe stayed during his stay in Rome with the his friend Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein. The rooms of the permanent exhibition tell the story of Goethe's Italian journey and his stay in Rome with letters, paintings, drawings, books and historical documents. Among other things, original drawings by Jakob Philipp Hackert, Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein and Christoph Heinrich Kniep are exhibited. Also on display are modern works such as Andy Warhol's portrait of Goethe, a work by Luigi Ontani or a sculpture by Andreu Alfaro. Four rooms are dedicated to temporary exhibitions, which are often dedicated to Italian-German themes and the tradition of travel to Italy up to the present day. A room of the museum hosts a library with a collection of books by Richard W. Dorn, first editions of works by Goethe, history of ideas and cultural relations between Germany and Italy.
