The show

PURPLE BILL. Icons of light is the title of the exhibition that can be visited in Rome at Palazzo Bonaparte which, starting from 5 March 2022 , will pay tribute to the greatest video-art artist from the 70s to today: Bill Viola . In the refined halls that were the home of Madama Letizia Ramolino Bonaparte, Napoleon's mother, visitors will be enveloped by the magic of Viola's works , mesmerized by the images of masterpieces such as Ascension (2000) and the famous Water Portraits (2015).

The Icons of light exhibition project, curated by Kira Perov, which includes the exhibition of 10 works by Bill Viola in the halls of Palazzo Bonaparte in Rome, represents a moment of reflection on the conceptual hyperbole of the American artist who, for over 40 years, he creates works that constantly address the life / death dichotomy and are inextricably linked by the contrasts between East and West. The works on display represent an emblematic synthesis of Viola's work, a temporal space that therefore also portrays the historical development of the same video -art: through the best known video installations and video projections , the retrospective narrates what can be defined as the artist's most intimate and spiritual journeys through the electronic medium.

An exhibition conceived as an emotional journey in which the public will be able to access spaces with a muffled atmosphere that recall places of profound intimacy , almost like shrines of one's own memory, a visionary space of worship where the visitor is invited to establish a profound visual connection and spiritual with the artwork.
