Jewish Museum of Padua

The Jewish Museum of Padua is located in the historic center of Padua in the historic "ghetto", where the building of the former Synagogue stands. The Jewish Padua Museum was created by the will of the Jewish community of the city and intends to offer its visitors a historical and cultural panorama of the millennial presence of Jews in the city. In the museum are collected objects of the Jewish tradition coming from the collection of the Paduan community and of private donors, exhibited in rotation; among these stand out some Ketubboth (marriage contracts), objects used in family Jewish rituals (Chanukkah candelabra, spice holders, Pesach plates, kiddùsh glasses), objects typical of synagogue rituals (crowns, sefer Torah, prayer texts, musical scores , parokhet (curtains for covering the Aron Haqodesh). Particular emphasis is given to the photographic reproduction of the splendid Aròn Haqòdesh (sacred wardrobe) that stands out in the niche, its original location until its transfer to Israel in 1956, decided to save it from decay. which was exhibited above the roof of the building: it is therefore a virtual "return" of great effect. Among the other objects certainly of greater value and significance, the parokhet of Egyptian Mamluk manufacture, dating back to the fifteenth century, and the Meghillath Esther handwritten on decorated parchment.
