Machine Museum 'Enrico Bernardi'

Museum of Machines 'Enrico Bernardi' is located in the historic center of Padua and is part of the University Museums of the University of Padua. The main examples of internal combustion engines that marked motoring history in Europe in the second half of the 19th century are preserved in the “Enrico Bernardi” Machine Museum. All the exhibits on display: from the atmospheric engine to the Pia engine running according to a mixed cycle with direct and atmospheric action, from the Lauro 4-stroke engine examples to the single-wheel trolley to propel a common bicycle up to the 3-wheel car, were built by Enrico Bernardi. The functioning of the engines on display has been restored in recent years following Bernardi's instructions noted in his notebooks, and is visible in the videos reproduced by the monitors in the museum. The Bernardi car with number plate 42-2, whose registration is still preserved. in the archives of the ACI of Padua, it is fully functional and “marching” on a flat road without any alteration of its set-up compared to the past. In the Museum there are also some autographed notebooks in which Bernardi noted his ideas and the results of his research, together with some drawings of the engine components on display. The Museum, in line with the most recent addresses of museology, allows visitors to different levels of reading: from video films to technical insights on the individual exhibits on display with the aid of interactive screens.
