The show

In the Salone della Meridiana, the journey begins through a portal, which pushes the visitor to cross almost the columns of Hercules, to discover the magic of the great exhibition "Thalassa, wonders submerged by the Mediterranean" (National Archaeological Museum of Naples, 12 December 2019 - March 9, 2020). The exhibition, which represents a veritable summa of what was revealed by the discipline of underwater archeology from 1950 until today, contains about four hundred finds, coming from prestigious Italian and international institutions. Symbolic center of the exhibit is the Farnese Atlas, a marble masterpiece dating from the 2nd century AD: the visit route, in fact, with very particular set-up techniques and plays of light, follows the constellations represented in the upper part of the sculpture, favoring, in a suggestive artistic route between past and present, the modus of ancient sailors who guided their journey following the sky. The underlying theme of this original itinerary is the discovery of the Mediterranean which, from the earliest historical roots of Western civilizations, was interpreted (and lived) according to different meanings: culture, economy, society, religion, nature and landscape are terms always linked to the Mare Nostrum.
