The show

A hundred years ago Wislawa Szymborska was born, a real rock star of poetry. His books are always best sellers. Mentioned in songs and films, many have written and told about her, from Woody Allen to Umberto Eco, from Roberto Saviano to Roberto Vecchioni, who dedicated a song to her. His name is as difficult to pronounce, as it is easy to enter his poems, following a free, lively, cheerful, lucid thought, which describes the small and large facts that make each day unique "giving words back to the world", as he declared Roberto Saviano explaining how his poems helped him in the most difficult moments.

From 16 June, the monographic exhibition “Wisława Szymborska. The joy of writing” , curated by Sergio Maifredi and set up by the set designer Michał Jandura , with the scientific advice and collaboration of Andrea Ceccherelli and Luigi Marinelli. It is produced by the Municipality of Genoa and Teatro Pubblico Ligure, in co-production with the Adam Mickiewicz Institute of Warsaw, with the patronage of the Wisława Szymborska Foundation of Krakow, in collaboration with the Polish Institute of Rome and with the Goethe-Institut Genua, an institution which spreads the culture of Germany throughout the world, among the first nations to recognize the value of Szymborska with the assignment of the Goethe Prize in 1991. The exhibition is supported by IREN.

Genoa will be an opportunity to take an absolutely original, immersive and intimate journey into the life and creative universe of the great poet. Documents, photographs, correspondence, graphic works… yes because Wislawa Szymborska had frequented the avant-gardes, she was a friend of Tadeusz Kantor, and from a young age she had ventured into the world of illustration which then took second place to that of verse. But her passion for figuration remained alive throughout her life, as evidenced by the collages she made and sent to friends on the occasion of parties. Brilliant and curious inventions, of which in the exhibition you will see many original specimens from private collectors, including Jarosłav Mikołajewski, poet and writer. These collages were real bonds of friendship that allow you to follow his creative paths, similar in visual language as in writing.
