Palazzo Vecchio Museum

The Palazzo Vecchio Museum is located in the heart of Florence in Piazza della Signoria .

T he Palazzo Vecchio Museum was built in the fourteenth century and is one of the best known buildings in the world.

The original body of Palazzo Vecchio was designed on the ancient ruins of the Roman theater of Florentia. It was originally called "Palazzo dei Priori" and then under the dominion of the Medici it changed its name to "Palazzo della Signoria". The building is famous for its Arnolfo Tower which is one of the symbols of the city.

The Palace is known for the historic struggle between Guelphs and Ghibellines that are present in the architectural elements of the building. The architectural beauty of this building is due to the design by Arnolfo di Cambio and to Giorgio Vasari for the Salone dei Cinquecento, the Eleonora Quarter, the Studiolo di Francesco and the Quartiere degli Elementi . The wonderful hall of the sixteenth century is a unique testimony of its kind painted entirely by Vasari with the Battle of Anghiari and the Battle of Cascina .

The Palazzo Vecchio Museum preserves some of the most important works by the likes of Agnolo Bronzino, Giorgio Vasari, the Ghirlandaio, Michelangelo Buonarroti, Verrocchio and Donatello.
