The show

The Guerrino Tramonti Museum Association of Faenza is pleased to present at the Ex Fornace space in Milan an important anthological exhibition of the painter, ceramist and sculptor Guerrino Tramonti (Faenza 1915 - 1992) thirty years after his death, an exhibition project curated by Elena Amodeo and Vittorio Schieroni created with the patronage of the Lombardy Region, the Emilia-Romagna Region, the Municipality of Milan - Municipality 6, Municipality of Faenza, AiCC - Italian Association of the City of Ceramics, MIC International Museum of Ceramics of Faenza and in collaboration with MADE4ART - Communication and services for art and culture.

On display in Milan is a selection of works that well represent the four fundamental periods of the artist's career from Faenza, with sculptures made of terracotta, ceramics and oil paintings on canvas or hardboard.

Alongside the all-round works, glazed and painted terracotta sculptures dating back to the 1930s and 1940s made in the twentieth century climate of the archaeologizing revival, especially of an Etruscan imprint, one will thus find luster coatings and large thicknesses of enamel majolica with decorations and shapes of “primitive” taste on the example of the master Guido Gambone dating back to the second post-war period. The exhibition itinerary continues with the large decorative discs glazed with craquelure of the 1950s, among which the geometric still lifes stand out, with a new figuration on the line from the iconographies of Neo Cubism, Abstractionism and Primitivism, up to the refined ceramics that recall the oriental art of China, Korea and Japan, experienced with the formal purism of design very popular between the sixties and seventies in Europe: an essentiality that led Tramonti to choose stoneware, an oriental material whose results do not depend only on firing at high temperature, but also from the dough.

Light, matter and color will be the first of a series of initiatives that will take place in Milan, Italy and abroad, focusing on the figure of Guerrino Tramonti and his rich and exceptional artistic production. A tribute to a Master who lived fully and through a personal and highly original imprint the great artistic season of the twentieth century, promoted by the Foundation and the Museum dedicated to him together with the artistic and cultural institutions of Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna.
