Description

Predynastic period, Naqada II (3600 BC - 3350 BC). This mummy was bought in Egypt by Ernesto Schiaparelli at the beginning of the twentieth century. It is the body of an adult man of about 40 years, accompanied by his funeral kit, consisting of arrows, baskets containing fragments of fabric and a pair of sandals. In the Predynastic Period, the deceased were usually placed in oval or circular holes, on one side. Direct contact with the sandy soil rich in sodium oxide favored its conservation by natural desiccation.
